Joint Viscosupplementation

What is joint viscosupplementation?

Joint viscosupplementation is the image-guided injection of a hyaluronidate, a substance that allows your  joints to glide smoothly. Some people call it an “oil change”. Hyaluronidate is found normally in young and healthy knees, but with wear and tear, it begins to disappear. Replacing what has been lost, allows the joint to glide smoothly again resulting in pain relief.

How long does it take?

The procedure typically requires 30 minutes, including preparation and recovery time.

How often should this procedure be done?

Three injections are given in one week intervals to complete the series. It may be done as needed due to its excellent safety profile.

What are the expected results?

Viscosupplementation is very successful in relieving pain in patients with mild to moderate arthritis. The benefit from these injections will typically occur two to seven days following the final procedure.
